A Q&A Session with a Curriculum Developer
The School of Tomorrow is barreling ahead with its free, online, asynchronous curriculum, with real time components, virtual and live in person, for those seeking a more personalized, customized experience.
Q: What curriculum is that?
A: I tend to anchor it around middle-to-high school, suggesting extensions in both directions, plus I market “high school for adults” meaning a back-to-basics interim, liminal experience every 10–15 years, just to keep up. Different styles of teaching pertain: andragogy versus pedagogy.
Q: That’s all fine and good, but what is the content of your curriculum?
A: At it’s core, we’re talking a flavor of computational spatial geometry, with a lot of focus on volumes and volume ratios. We used full-fledged computer programming languages, not just underpowered calculators, nor do we stick with floating point numbers for irrationals; we use computer algebra and ask for significant digits only at the end, however many we wish.
