Kaufmann was of course immersed in Nietzsche as a principal translator. He would explain his word choices to us, like why "overman" and not "superman" (kind of obvious). Rorty, a big time John Dewey fan, was known for reading all the Continental stuff most Anglophone philosophers were still ignoring (Derrida, Foucault, Adorno, Habermas). My focus was WIttgenstein's later philosophy, with Rorty a thesis adviser (yes, undergrads had to write one).
